When I was a new parent and had just started at co-op, ‘Positive Discipline’ was in the air. Of course, I was bone-tired, had zero time or energy to read a book, and made an assumption that I knew what Positive Discipline was … and boy was I wrong! Reading this article, I was reminded of how I felt then, not wanting to be harsh with my little one, not really understanding what it sounded like to be respectful and firm at the same time. And so I made these errors – over and over and over … until I would lose my temper. This is such a great reminder that you *can* set a respectful and kind limit with your child, even if it doesn’t come naturally.
